Basic Ways to Check and Maintain Your Sprinkler System

It is very beautiful to have a plush and well-kept lawn and yard. Many people have this kind of lawn, and so can you. One crucial thing to do to achieve this goal is watering, the watering of your grass, flowers, and trees that surround your property. Watering must be done properly, and most importantly, regularly. There is nothing wrong with watering our lawn by ourselves, but sometimes, we have so much work to do that we neglect it. A good alternative to this is by installing a sprinkler system, many people have used this successfully, and it’s excellent if you already have one.

Sprinkler systems, like other systems installed in our homes, are also prone to wear and tear. It is important to check and maintain them so that they can do the job regularly. You can hire an excellent Gardening Company to this job, but you can also do it on your own. If you prefer the latter option, here are the basic ways to check and maintain your sprinkler system.

 Sprinkler System

  1. Gauge its Performance

Before doing the basics of maintenance, it is also important to gauge and check its performance first. One method we can do is to measure how long it can fill or water an inch; we can infer from this data if our sprinkler system is well or not. To do this, you purchase gauging kits, or you can simply obtain a tuna can and set it on your lawn. Gather the amount of time your sprinkler system takes to fill it and compare it to other tests in the future.

  1. Repair Leakage

One of the most common problems of the sprinkler system is leakage, which can be found in the valves, pipes, or tubes. To spot leakage, observe areas of your lawn that are always wet or creates a pool of water. Inspect the component of the sprinkler system in this spot and inspect for leaking.

If the leaking is from tubes or pipes, you can repair them by applying a water proof sealant. Put enough amount to completely cover the hole. If the leaking is from loose valves, you can replace it by yourself or call your gardening service contractor.

  1. Check Sprinkler Heads

Another component of a sprinkler system that is prone to damage is its sprinkler heads. Sprinkler heads are often clogged with sand, small stones, and dirt. Put in some time each month to inspect these sprinkler heads and clean them. If they are no longer properly, it is better to replace it and purchase the same kind and size.

  1. Install a Rain Sensor

One way to maintain the good condition of your sprinkler system is to support it with other devices. An example of such device is the rain sensor. Rain sensors shut down your sprinkler system if your lawn has received the adequate amount of water from rain. This way, the health of your sprinkler system is preserved because the load of work is now distributed to the power of rain.

Search For Those Hard To Find Leaks In Your Home

Leaks are a common problem in a home, and they can give you’re a sense of insecurity towards the safety of your home every time there is a storm in the area. These leaks should be searched and eliminated right away, the longer moisture and water, in general, are exposed to the foundation of your roof, then the weaker it will get which could pose a serious threat. Raleigh roofing is a service that is never taken for granted, if you are having trouble taking care of it on your own, never shy away from asking help from roofing professionals.

 Leaks

There is one trick that is highly effective in learning the location of roof leakages in your own home, but it will take at least two people who are properly in sync to accomplish this task. One person has to be on top of the roof with the hose, at the same time the partner should be approximately in the same location but right beneath the roof. It is more of a trial and error process, expect that you will invest a lot of time during this experiment.

The one on top of the roof will pour water on the roof, it will be best to get a marker and properly section the roof, and the person beneath the roof will wait if there will be leakage in that area. This is one of the more time-consuming methods, but at least you will be getting more accurate data, and you will more or less know where the problems are originating. Adding a marker like a rope to separate the different sectors of the roof will help in filtering out the healthy part from the damaged areas of the roof.

Small leaks are a lot harder to detect, but you should be putting more efforts into this search because you do not want this turn into a more serious problem. This is hard to search because small leaks can originate from a small problem with a loose screw, and if you have any installations on your roof, that is probably the first place you should look. It may not seem like much of a big deal, but the small opening from a loose screw can the beginning of a huge leakage problem. That is why it is crucial that you double check the screws in your roof, and make sure that they are screwed in nice and tight.

Another thing you should try to avoid will be short term band aid solutions, and that means roofing cement products. These products use a putty like material to cover a hole temporarily, but some people use this for long term use because they aren’t willing to spend more for proper construction to fix the problem. I suggest that you let go of this mindset and make sure that you do things the right way because it will be all be worth it in the long run.
